Technology in school: blogging?

image from tumblr

As someone who blogs for the fun of it I found it really interesting how In one of my university courses we have to participate in a class blog groupe.

I've herd from my friends in a Writing/Communications program that for their school they are required to keep up with social media and blog/tweet/facebook all the time as part of their program, but what does a textiles course need me to blog for?

Professors are using blogging as a way for their class to communicate their thoughts and opinions to their classmates and allowing them to actively participate in their education. Through responding to each others questions and opinions you have an opportunity to learn more.

I enjoy it because I'm one of those people who doesn't like answering/asking questions in class but can go on forever on the internet. ^^;;

Have you ever had to do this for a class? Did you enjoy it?

British pathe

Today i found a wonderful you tube channel dedicated to historical film clips called british pathe. Theres some wonderful war clips and of coarse fashion clips! theres even a couple of clips of women from the early 1900's, the end of the victorian era! Its interesting to see a film of the actual people doing normal things instead of a interpretation or reinactement.

Put a sock in it!

A heres great way to make a shoe fit thats too big for you. Put a sock in it. as simple as that.
Or if there only slightly too loose and your already wearing a pair of knee highs wear a small ankle sock under the knee highs to add more bulk.

I yesterday I received my shoe order from baby! however because I could technically fit both L and LL sizes, I decided to play it safe and go with the bigger one. and sadly it turned out that they are slightly too loose on my foot (but still better then too small). So I tuck a sock and shoved it into the toe of the shoe and now they fit perfectly! Wich is good because I love them to death, especially the black ones.

with socks in toe

also with sock shoved in.

Another thing that I had to do to the shoes is add another hole for the buckle because even on the tightest setting the straps were waaaay to loose. And for that all I did was take a yarn/tapestry needle and shove it through the strap where I wanted the new hole to be, yarn needles are way bigger then normal hand sewing needles so it wasn't hard to shove the buckle through the new hole.

Look forward to some new outfits with these shoes!
And happy 100th post!

comparing experiences: ear piercings

I have had my ears pierced twice now, once because of a misinformed christmas gift (of a whole tin of earrings), and more recently because I want to wear adorable and nerdy earrings.

The first time when I was about 13 and my parents tuck me to Clairs (the accessory shop) in the nearest mall. I was pierced with a piercing gun using gold earrings. I remember bleeding a fair bit and crying because of the pain.

The second time was a bit over a month ago now, was done in a tattoo parlour, by a professional. They used a piercing needle and surgical steel earrings.  it hurt about as much or even less then a shot you get in your shoulder, and barely bled at all.

The cair regime i was told to follow the first time is completely different from what i was told to do by a professional. no alcohol, no turning, no hydrogen peroxide. just mild soap and some salty water. This is the single most infuriating of things, when I had my earrings in the first time they lasted about a year but were plagued by infection and never healed. and i never got to even change them once. eventually my parents and i were annoyed with them and we just tuck them out.

So far I haven't gotten any infections and they seem to be healed after a month. perhaps i will wait another week to change them just to be on the safe side (I was told 4-6 weeks healing time).

Please If theres anything to learn from my experience is to always get your piercings done professionally.  Its much less painful, safer,  and the piercers are more knowledgeable. No matter the age.
