Gathering tutorial

The first of many new tutorials, I thought i would start off with gathering so that I can refer back to it in future tutorials. Theres a couple methods of doing this but I find this way really quick and easy because you dont have to worry about the thread breaking while your gathering.

Note: you can use twine or other types of string if you want, I prefer crochet yarn because its thin but strong.

I used white thread and yarn on black fabric for the tutorial.

First: cut out the fabric you want to gather, in the example i used a 6x18 inch rectangle and a 3x6 inch rectangle just as and example.

2: -on wrong side of fabric- Leave a few inches at the beginning so you will have something to grab when its time to gather, and position the yarn in the middle of the foot.

make sure your machine is set to the largest possible ZigZag stitch. As your sewing make sure you dont catch the yarn (this will make it impossible to gather).

3: -right sides together- pin the piece to be gathered to the piece it is to be sewn to at the beginning and end, pull the yarn to start gathering! then pin as needed in between.

4: With a normal straight/top stitch sew the 2 pieces together.

5: Pull out the yarn completely, and finish off the edge in the method of your choice.

Tip: I find its helpful to wrap the yarn on one side around a pin so it cant move, and only pull from one side.

The finished gather! If you have any questions or you feel i didn't explain something well say so and ill do my best to fix it!
