New arrival!

My new baby dress arrived in the mail earlier this week!
Its the Dobby Rosebud in lavender.

I was surprised when i opened the box, its not a cotton twill like i thought it would be its more of a crepe. It is very light and airy though! perfect for spring and summer! I'm really looking forward to wearing this to any picknick or park this summer!

I do have to say though that this dress falls shorter on me then my other baby dress, its at my thigh instead of just over the knee. If your thinking of buying this dress and normally have length problems with brand items this one might be too short. I'm not sure if this was done because its a summer dress or because the waist of the dress is higher also.

Also the fabric has little shiny silver diamonds in it! (in the weave of the fabric not actual beads or anything) I looked at the stock photos afterwards an realized you can just barely see them, if your looking for them. but they show up much much more in real life!

circled is one of the diamonds

Kamikaze Girls -the book

I recently finished reading the Kamikaze girls book, I watched the movie first about a year ago and recently thought to read the book because its become sort of a "lolita classic".  In the movie I found Momoko had a lack of character, and that she was a little too one-dimensional. However in the book you get more of a glimpse into her thought processes and her personality comes out more. wich was a great relief!

I also find the book was better then the movie in that you aren't so much caught up in the visuals to miss the point of the story, of getting along even though your completely different people. The book isnt really about fashion, even though its a major part. Its about values. When we watch the movie, with Momoko's bonnets and petticoats we tend to forget this.

As with most books-turned-movies I would recommend the book over the movie! Its a must read for anyone interested in the spirit and background of lolita. (the book itself give a bit of a history lesson of how and when it first began).

Also I found out that it has a sequel? am I behind the news or is it because it hasn't been translated or something?

Outfit Post!

I dont know why but i just felt like being slightly pirate-y today! thus the boots and striped shirt. I have to admit though that I'm not normally the pirate type (though I do love AatP), I tend to go for lighter colours.

Practice makes perfect!

Pardon my eyes staring into your soul, but I would like to bring attention to my false lashes. not that ridiculous or obvious right? right? I owe all the credit to practice.

It always pains me to see a girl, who has put so much time and energy into their outfit then when it comes time for makeup, bombs. be it crooked eyeliner or poorly applied falsies. Most lolitas wear some amount of makeup on a daily basis but only for special occasions or meetups do most of us bring out the big guns.

It can be very useful, when you have the time to spare to play with your makeup, with what you want to wear to the next meetup. what blush looks best on you? or make it as ridiculous as you want, draw eyebrows on in eyeliner, give yourself 5'o'clock shadow! no bodys looking.

If your feel the need to practice putting false eyelashes on like I did, go to the dollar store or the drug store and buy the cheapest ones and just practice. you should be able to use the same pair about 5 times as long as your careful.

Fine China

I have a confession, I'm a china fanatic. I thrive in antique stores looking at all the tea cups and china sets.

Its always been my belief that every household/woman should have a set of fine china. And that the pattern should reflect its owner in a positive fashion. (oh the symbolism of flowers!) So i have begun thinking of what pattern i should choose to be my main set (with all the plates etc.) and found its really hard!

Theres just so many patterns i dont know where to start! but while i'm floundering about trying to make a decision ill leave you with a tip:

I you hold a piece of china up to a light (in this case a teacup) you can tell if its real bone china if you can see the brand on the bottom through the cup.

Its kind of hard to take a picture of but the grey in the middle of the cup is the brand showing through the cup in the light. otherwise the inside of the cup is pure white.

If the cup isn't real china the light wont shine through. or it wont have a brand mark.

Hope it helps you out sometime!
